Paintings That Are Connected to the Gambling World

March 20, 2020 Posted in News by No Comments

Many people think that art and online casino don’t go and in hand and it’s true. That is halfway true, but not completely.

On the other hand, though, the famous celebrities of the past were gambling and spending money on poker all while gaining inspiration for their next famous masterpieces, whether they are compositions, sculptures or even paintings.

This was all happening before the era of the online casinos of today, and the roots of the actual casino date long before we even know it. People and royalties have been gambling all the way back to Ancient Egypt and China.

In the 17th and 18th century, the poker was really famous as well, even historical figures like Dostoevsky and Queen Marie Antoinette were practicing it on a daily basis.

Here are some of the most world-famous paintings that were inspired by this hobby through history.

1. Georges de La Tour – The Cheat with the Ace of Clubs

This painting by the famous “candlelight painter” Georges de la Tour who was of French decency, warns you about why you shouldn’t play casino games with strangers.

There are 4 women in the painting dressed in noble dresses and lots of jewelry that are in some way, scared of losing their money on a gamble game, based on their facial expressions and they are suspicious of anyone and anything. (even the waitress who serves them wine).

2. Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio – The Cardsharps

This painting consists of three men circled around a poker table, the two of them playing a card game.

The third guy is obviously telling something to one of the gentlemen, possibly advising him.

They are deeply in the conversation that they don’t notice the third man placing a cad behind his back.

All of this is in order for him to beat the game and his mischief goes overlooked.

3. Cassius Marcellus Coolidge – Dogs Playing Poker

This is a very popular painting because it’s all over the modern pop-art and it’s even mentioned in some movies.

It’s an abstract painting consisting of 7 dogs around a casino table playing poker.

Of course, this is unrealistic but the idea is quite interesting if you ask me. It makes you think and wonder, to imagine and assume about a different life, in a parallel universe.

It’s really fun to look at and it certainly is unforgettable.

4. Shelly Wilkerson – Slot Machine Queen

This one is the least famous among all the previous paintings I’ve mentioned but you can’t overlook this masterpiece. This work of art cheers you up and it gives you hope for a win any time, and the joyous colors are something to else.

I personally love this painting because you can’t see an elder lady and her cat widely smiling at you and waiting for you to spin that wheel or spin the slot machines, just like she already did in the painting. It’s simply amazing.

These are only a few of the many casino-related paintings out there and let me tell you, they are something.

All of them are with a different story and they are worth the attention they have got through the years.

But, most of all, they are inspirational and make you hopeful for your next casino round.
